DAS28 components

The DAS28 is a measurement to assess disease activity in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis. To calculate disease activity with the DAS28 your rheumatologist or nurse will score the following 4 items:

  • Number of painful joints out of 28 assessed joints;
  • Number of swollen joints out of 28 assessed joints;
  • The Erythrocytes Sedimentation Rate (ESR) or C- Reactive Protein (CRP);
  • A Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) questioning about your general health in the past week, you may put a mark at a line of 10 cm (see Figure).
